Nguyen Dien Hien (b. 1972)

Currently living and working in Hanoi.

Born in Thuong Vu commune, Kim Thanh District Hai Duong province in 1972.
Former residence:Yen Hoa Commune – Yen Tho District Quang Ninh province.

1994 graduated from the National College for Teachers of Music and Painting.
2001 Graduated from Hanoi Fine Arts University.
Member of Vietnam Association of Plastic Arts Workers.
Member of Hanoi Literature and Art Union.

From 2000 Hien’s work has been shown each year, at the Annual National Exhibition which is funded by the Hanoi Fine Art Association.

Hien’s works on paper express bold shapes in vivid colours which celebrate elements of traditional Vietnamese cultural life. Most important to Hien is his connection to family which appears as a recurring motif. Through this theme, Hien references traditional folklore expressed through music, the iconic water buffalo and the lotus plant. These symbols are of cultural importance especially to the life of the Vietnamese rural population.
